The End-SARS protest has been trending nation wide by protesters to halt the incessant killings of innocent Nigerians by the Special Anti Robbery Squad popularly called "SARS."
Continuous persuasion and complain during protest about the activities of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) got to the ears of IGP of police, Mohammed Adamu to dissolve the unit. Severe protest from all nukes and cranny caught the eyes of human right activists, the international community and Nigerians in diaspora to put an end to SARS and reform the Police Force.
The security committee headed by the FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammed Musa Bello held a meeting to stop the continuous protest that has led to the disruption of peace and causing unrest to the law abiding citizens living in the Federal Capital Territory.
Protesters also complained about hoodlums disrupting, molesting and destroying parked cars that has lead to heavy traffic gridlock and interruption of peace and stability at the FCT. The Minister also stated that efforts are being made to address the menace of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad.
There was also, a presidential directive for a reform of the police unit and the dissolution of SARS that was established since 1992. Nigerians have been on social media and protesters have been carrying ply cards to express their feelings about the inhuman nature of the police unit for the past couple of days.
The extra judicial killings in various parts of the country motivated a lot of celebrities, human right activists to express their grievances about the continuous brutality and extra judicial killings that are being reported by the SARS operatives across the country with video clips, photo, and ply cards.
According to cable.ng, the federal government has accepted the five point demand of End-SARS to restore order and confidence between the police and entire public below;
1. An Order by the IGP to all state command to halt the use of force against protesters.
2. Unconditional release of arrested protesters and citizens
3. Open communication and outreach to citizens to establish trust, confidence and a road map for the implementation of the white paper of the presidential panel on the reform of SARS.
4. Proposal to set up an independent investigation panel to look into violation of human right by the defunct SARS and other segment of the Nigerian Police.
5. Psychological evaluation training and retraining of dis-banned SARS official prior to redeployment.
The increment of salary was put into consideration as well to enable officers become more efficient to perform their Job roles.
President Buhari who on Monday shared a video clip at his twitter handle, assured Nigerians that extra judicial killings before and during the End-SARS on going protest will be investigated and Justice would prevail.
The FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammed Musa Bello and the Nigerian Army has banned the continuous protest that has led to the disruption of peace caused by hoodlums and violent protesters in Abuja. Residence were also reminded about the dangers of conducting such protest when the country and the entire world is facing Covid-19 pandemic.
